The Five Key Shifts Webinar Outline
Background
- 45 min target length
- The webinar is formatted to be consistently going from the negativity of the current situation to the positivity of the future (with your help) through the intro and close sections. When choosing slide background images, this should be considered. Negative sections = darker, gloomier images. Positive sections = brighter, more colourful images. The start of each of these sections is outlined in the slide notes.
- On slides where there are multiple points or blocks of text, use the Appear animation to have those items appear one at a time as you get to them, do not start with all the content on those slides showing.
- You can choose to make your webinar about 4 to 6 shifts or steps or items in plan
- Go through this document and outline the content of the webinar first based on the structure that the slides create, then go back through with content in hand and make the actual slide deck
- Do your best to not read from a script, use your slides as queues and expand on each of the items written on your slides.
- Through out the directions below, there are times that specify something that the presenter should be saying but should not be put into the slide itself, these are referred to as speaker’s notes and can be stored in the speaker’s notes section of Power Point or even in a separate script document.
Intro
Little flexibility in here, follows format exactly
Slide #1: Title Slide
- This is the start of a positive section, choose a background that doesn’t have a strong focal point to it, more along the lines of an interesting texture but is bright and colourful
- Ensure the title of the webinar is named as the clear outcome of the webinar. On this slide you will simply introduce yourself and the webinar.
Slide #2: Who This is for
- Headline the slide “Who This Is For”
- Then state in the text who is the target audience for the webinar. You want too hook into what the audience wants to achieve or get without being extraordinarily specific about their demographic. For example, “If you are getting to a point in your life where you are starting to really consider retirement” and not “If you are 50 to 60 years old”
- Then have a statement of “If you ….. then this is for you” (fill in the …. )
Slide Set #3: The Benefits
- Headline the slide “In the next 45 minutes”
- Then outline what they are going to learn in the format of a benefit(s)
example formats: “How to do X without Y” or “How to do X even if Y” - This part can span 1 to 3 slides, just make sure the headline is the same across all of them
Slide #4: The Big Promise
- Choose a new background for this slide (something like a gift or present)
- Headline the slide “My big promise to you” and position the headline in the middle of the slide vertically
- Sub-headline is the promise and it refers back to the title of the webinar from slide 1
This should be in the format of “the step by step guide to…” or “the foolproof plan to…”
Slide #5: House Rules
- Choose a new background for this slide
- Headline the slide “House Rules”
- Use a numbered list to outline a few “rules” that boil down to what you are going to show them takes effort and that this isn’t just magic.
examples: “No get rich quick”, “No do nothing, get paid”, “You have to earn your results” etc
Slide Set #6: Does this sound like you?
- This is the start of a negative section, choose a new background for this slide (a little darker in colour, not a happy looking image)
- In a numbered list, ask questions (not phrases) that describe where the target audience is currently at in their lives and vividly points out the pain they are experiencing everyday. What you are getting at here is two fold; 1. You demonstrate you understand the audience and 2. The audience is at a low point feeling into their problems.
- Only put 3 of these questions per slide and leave out the “best”, most vivid or cutting question that is most clearly resolved by your webinar.
- This section can span 1 to 3 slides (continue the numbering across slides but keep the same headline)
- Questions that start like, “do you wake up everyday …….”, “do you secretly know …..” “Can you go an entire day…”, “do you wake up in the middle of the night and…” etc
- Through this section, go slow and labour each question to let them land
Slide #7: The Big Question
- Choose a new background for this slide (another darker, not happy image)
- This slide does not have a headline
- In a larger font that fills most of the slide, ask the one big question that was most vivid or cutting that was left out of the previous slide(s)
- Speaker’s Notes: When presenting in the webinar, before moving away from this slide, take a moment and stress the line “If any of this sounds like you, I have good news” and then move onto the next slide (the Reframe)
Slide #8: The Reframe
- This is the start of a positive section, choose a new background for this slide
- Headline this slide “The Real Problem?” and position the headline in middle of the slide vertically
- Only have a small sub headline that says “You haven’t …..” where you reference back to the title of the webinar and the big promise
- This is to turn all other competitors solutions simply into band aids while you have the only real solution. The angle here is, the real problem isn’t all the pain you feel from the Does This Sound Like You? section, those are just symptoms of the real problem which is that you haven’t yet done what I’m going to teach you.
Slide Set #9: Once You Make Them…
- Headline this section based on what type of promise you made. If it’s a step by step plan, the head line should be “Once You Take Them…”. If it’s a guided plan, “Once You Go Through It…” etc
- Use these slides to describe in short paragraphs, how awesome life is going to be once they do your work and have their problems solved. This is similar to the The Benefits section above and mentions tangible benefits but focuses on giving them a picture of how life is going to feel. This should be rich and vivid. Make their future life sound amazing
- This should be 2 to 3 slides long, all with the same headline
- Before moving onto the next section (Who Am I?), the presenter should use the line, “ok before we go too much further, let me take 2 seconds and introduce myself so that you know who I am and why the hell you should listen to me” then switch to the next slide
Slide #10: Who I Am
- Background for this slide is picture of you off to either the left or right so that text can go beside you
- Headline of this slide is “Who I Am”
- 2 to 4 bullet points in sentence form that establish your credibility
Slide #11: Discovering the …
- Background for this slide is an image of success (ie; someone at the top of mountain with the world in front of them)
- Only the headline is on this slide and it is centered vertically on the slide
- The headline refers back to what the webinar is about.
Example: “Discovering the 5 Shifts” - This slide feeds into the next one and sets up how you discovered this solution you are going to give them today. Lines to use on this slide are things like, “I was <having problem similar to you> and then I started finding that some people were winning and some people were losing. When I dug in I found the people who were winning were doing these # things and when I started incorporating them into my business/life I started winning to.”
Slide #12: The Bottom Line is
- Headline is still the same as the slide before but this slide has text
- The copy for this slide follows this format:
“There are # key shifts that you must make to” or “There are # steps you must take to”
“take your …. To ….. in <time period> while you enjoy more ….”“I’m going to walk you through all # of them in this session.”
This ends the intro section, core content will start immediately after this. This section should wrap up at around the 10 minute mark (give or take a minute or so).
Core Content
This is the flexible part of your webinar as it is where you go through your steps/shifts/items in the plan. Here are the points to be aware of when building the core content and the related slides:
- Each step/shift/item in the plan will have a headline slide that has just the headline centered vertically in the slide followed by content slides. Each step/shift/item in the plan has one background image that is continuous through that section until the step/shift/item.
- The primary focus of this core content is about SHIFTING BELIEFS, it is NOT about teaching. Don’t give them ALL the details/information, do give them enough to understand that this item is important, key, and valuable. Remember its about shifting their belief, not about teaching them. At the end they need to believe each part and believe they can do it but not know how to execute.
- They need to believe that they need to take action
- They need to believe you are the best solution out there, no one else can do it as well as you
- The content needs to be DISRUPTIVE. It needs to be content they haven’t heard before, go out and bust myths. Ask yourself, “What do most other experts say/do?” then ask yourself, “How is that bullshit?”
You may want to consider also asking yourself, “What if I did the opposite?” (may or may not be applicable)
If any of your shifts/steps/items are not really all that disruptive, then at least make sure you give it a cool new name to make it seem different and create intrigue or curiosity. - The number of things you are saying to do must add up to the Outcome. ie: If I do these 5 things, I get the outcome.
- Each step/shift/item needs to be SIMPLE, easy for everyone to understand. Pretend you are explaining to an 8 year old (regardless of your audience). A golden phrase is “It’s just like….” when explaining things.
- If possible, make as much of your content visual as possible (ie: use the Smart Art feature of Power Point)
- Only use case studies and testimonials to reinforce a point you just made, do not add these things to be self-serving or to show off.
- While building the core content, try to follow this flow as much as possible for each step/shift/item:
- Shock -> Say something unexpected
- Support -> Site statistics or evidence
- Stakes -> Nightmare (when you get it wrong) & Dream (when you get it right)
- Stuff -> Your actual content
- Story -> Case study or example in the real world
- Sum-Up -> Close up and move into the next shift/step/item
- In most cases, one of your middle steps/shifts/items should be “the secret weapon” (the unknown thing that does most the actual work). Often part of this shift/step/item is “The Old Way vs the New Way” where you explain how people used to do this and how this brand new way does this way better. Be sure to absolutely tear down the old way, be ruthless.
- At the end of the shift/step/item that is closest to the middle, do a re-cap of what the previous items were.
- Consider making the last step/shift/item something related to “invest in mentoring/coaching”, drive home the point that they should use your help without straight up saying it yet.
The Close
Little flexibility in here, follows format exactly
Slide Set #1: Today I Promised
- Use the same background as you used for the first 3 slides in the Intro
- The slide headline is “Today I Promised…”
- The copy in the slide is the same benefits from the Benefits section from the Intro, copy those points directly
- This set of slides should be as many slides as there were in the Benefits section of the Intro.
Slide #2: What You Need to Win
- Use a new background
- Slide headline is “What You Need To Win”
- List out the titles of each of the shifts/steps/items and a statement at the bottom that says, “These # shifts/steps/items alone are enough to ….” and fill in the blank accordingly
Slide #3: Now You Have a Choice
- Use a new background
- Slide headline is “Now you have a choice…” and the slide is nothing but this headline (centered vertically)
- While on this slide, the presenter must take time to outline the nightmare (if you don’t take the info presented, example, “you can choose to take the info I’ve just given you and not do anything with it and continue to grind/strugg/etc with <problems>) and the dream (if you want all the benefits I’ve outlined) and finish with “if you want all that, then this is what I have for you” and move onto the next slides
Slide Set #4: How I Can Help
- Headline is “How I Can Help”
- This set contains two slides
First Slide content:
“My team and I have set aside some time in the next 48 hours to speak to you personally about how you can apply these ideas to your business/life starting TODAY.”
“Whatever your biggest challenges are, we’ve seen it and we know how to overcome it.”
Second Slide content:
“We will get on the phone and on this session, we will work with you to craft a step-by-step game plan to <recap what your program or product will do for them”
“The cost? Absolutely FREE.”
Slide #5: Who This is For
- Slide Headline is “Who This is For…”
- This slide is different than the one in the Intro section, that one is for who the audience is, this section here is to qualify the leads. State who you want to work with and by doing so show that there are people you don’t want to work with.
List 3 to 5 things that are qualifications, be strict.
Slide #6: Why We’re Doing This
- Slide Headline is “Why We’re Doing This…”
- The copy for this slide is the two following sentences:
“We do this because we love giving back, and helping business owners/people achieve their goals.”
“Plus, we know that you might want our help to transform your business/life. If so, we can discuss it and see if it’s a good fit for both of us. If not, that’s fine too.”
Slide #7: Apply
- Use a new background
- Headline is your apply & booing URL with sub-headline “Spaces are very limited – Sign Up Now!”
- These headlines are centered vertically in your slide
- Please note, using most webinar platforms will also present them with a button so you can reference that while talking to them
- While talking explain what is going to happen when they go to the link or click the button, “When you follow this link you will be taken to our calendar page, you will see our available appointments for the next two days, grab anyone that works for you! After that you’ll be taken to a short application and then we’ll speak to you at your appointment.”
- If you have a great testimonial that you haven’t shared yet, it’s a good time to share it after you step them through what’s going to happen when they click your link. This is where a self serving testimonial will work well
- After all that, sign off and end the video.
